REFLEXIONS Conference Program

9:00 am · Opening Speech

Laura Chaubard, Director General and Acting President of École Polytechnique

9:05 am · Welcome speech

Thierry Coulhon, President of Institut Polytechnique de Paris

9:20 am · Roundtable "Energy Sustainability"

Keynote speech : Philippe Varin

Energy sustainability refers to the ability of an energy system to endure over time while minimizing its environmental impacts. Beyond the technical dimension, it is also a societal challenge that calls for dialogue and collaboration. It encompasses pressing global issues such as climate change, the depletion of natural resources, particularly rare metals, and the pollution of air, water, and soil. This roundtable offers a unique opportunity to bring together diverse perspectives, foster debate on innovative solutions, and explore how policy, research, and industry can work hand in hand to build a more resilient and sustainable energy future.

11:00 am · Roundtable "Energy Security"

Keynote speech : Vincent Berger

Energy security refers to the stability of energy supply, the resilience of infrastructures, and the capacity of systems to withstand crises, whether geopolitical, climatic, or technical. It encompasses crucial issues such as the risk of power outages, sovereignty over energy sources, and control of strategic technologies. This roundtable provides a platform to address the growing complexity of global energy interdependence, to debate strategies for securing critical resources, and to explore how governments, researchers, and industry leaders can collaborate to strengthen resilience while ensuring reliable and affordable access to energy.

12:35 pm · Lunch break
2:00 pm · Roundtable "Energy Justice"

Keynote speech : Éloi Laurent

Energy justice broadens the debate beyond technological considerations by integrating fundamental societal dimensions. It raises key questions of distributive justice, namely who benefits from energy systems and who bears their costs; of procedural justice, meaning how decisions are made and by whom; and of recognition justice, which calls for addressing past inequities, particularly in the context of climate finance negotiations. This roundtable invites reflection on how to design energy transitions that are not only sustainable and secure, but also fair and inclusive.

3:40 pm · Testimonies

This session will showcase testimonies of concrete actions that bring to life the conference’s key themes of sustainability, security and justice. Its objective is to highlight real-world projects at the local, national or international level that address these challenges through innovative and impactful approaches.

Each testimony will be delivered by a key actor of change, whether a researcher, an entrepreneur or start-up founder, a public sector representative or an NGO leader. By sharing their experiences and insights, these speakers will illustrate how scientific knowledge, civic engagement and technological innovation can converge to shape a more sustainable, secure and just future.

5:00 pm · Closing of the Event
