REFLEXIONS: International conference on climate change

09 Jun. 2023
Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) is organizing the second international conference REFLEXIONS, whose ambition is to become a reference academic and scientific forum, contributing to the understanding and resolution of issues related to climate change and more broadly to the sustainable transition. The 2023 edition will focus on regulation to fight climate change.
REFLEXIONS: International conference on climate change

Regulation means rules or measures made by an authority such as government or parliament, international treaties ratified by governments, but also measures taken by regulators such as regulatory agencies of specific markets (energy, financial, telecommunications, etc.). The alarming data on climate change requires the development of new regulation as well as refining existing ones to tackle this global challenge. Scientific expertise and the analysis of the global consequences of climate change play a major role in ensuring decision makers build science- based regulation in order to fight efficiently against climate change.

The involvement of actors from the public and private sector as well as civil society will allow to build long-term impactful regulation and policies. In this context, the international community and national governments are already working with a variety of stakeholders – NGOs, companies, scientists, etc., through dedicated consultative bodies and groups. For example, the actions of the IPCC or scientists during the Paris Climate Agreement have encouraged the production and dissemination of scientific data on this topic and have made it possible to fully commit citizens in the fight against climate change. Involving all stakeholders – the public and private sector as well as civil society – in the elaboration of new regulation will ensure their success.

Climate change is a global issue that can only be addressed by working at all levels: locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. In particular, it is essential to strengthen international cooperation ensuring the implementation of coordinated policies including binding regulation such as treaties.

The first edition of the REFLEXIONS Conference was initiated by École Polytechnique in 2019 and welcomed several Nobel Prize winners such as Gérard Mourou and Jean Tirole, as well as key players in the fight against climate change from all over the world. The 2nd edition of the REFLEXIONS Conference will be held on June 9, 2023 (from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm) on the campus of Institut Polytechnique de Paris, at École Polytechnique, in the Paris Greater region. The main theme will be regulation to fight against climate change. The event will be held in English (Live translation in French language).
